Migrant Construction Workers Need Your Help!

The coronavirus lockdown in India affects some of us more than others. While a few have the privilege of isolation in AC homes, with stocks of food, water, board games & books, there are those who are jobless, hungry and struggling to make ends meet. In Bangalore, lakhs of migrant workers from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, Rajasthan, Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh need our support. With country-wide lockdown, migrant construction workers are particularly affected. With no work, no wages, no means to go to source village, how should they feed their families and themselves? How should they protect themselves against the virus? Private contractors have stopped paying them wages. With no wages in hand and minimal government aid, they need us to step up for them.

Our team at Sampark is working tirelessly to provide Covid-19 relief kits to 3,500 workers families residing in Bangalore in various labour colonies. Each relief kit contains essential foods, health and hygiene necessities. The average cost of each relief kit is 1,000 rupees.  We urge you to donate generously and help us in our efforts to protect as many lives as we can!

Sampark with the support of sponsors has also started cooked food distribution. It is being distributed to those with no access to firewood. Our team has tracked down the homeless, the beggars, the squatters, and the gypsies in order to ensure that they survive. With no-one on the streets, they no longer have anyone to turn to. Now their survival depends on us.

With the help of kind donors and their generous efforts we have started distribution of nutrition kits to migrant construction workers in the labour colonies, where Sampark works. Strict safety measures were followed by Sampark staff, volunteers and workers. The workers were informed to maintain a safe distance while collecting their ration. Timely help and quick intervention with safety as priority is the need of the hour!
